Eunice had the unfortunate experience of six different proposals that did not mature into wedding ceremonies, even though she accepted all of them. It is hard to believe that a woman’s heart can be broken six times. But this was Eunice’s experience by the time Stanley came around. She could not even bear seeing him, not to talk of hearing any talk about marriage. Her heart was as hard as a desert stone because he took her failed relationships as her lot in life. ‘Men are the same’, she would say.
Stanley kept on asking for an opportunity to even hear her story, but was never given a chance until Eunice fell ill without any hope of help from anybody. Without telling her, Stanley arranged to pay the bills, and warned the hospital not to tell Eunice what he had done. One sensitive nurse, who knew Eunice’s story, let the cat out of the bag. What softened Eunice’s heart was the fact that Stanley had requested that no one should tell her about what he did. ‘A man who desired a relationship with her but would not let her know of his kindness to her, must be a special man’, Eunice reasoned. Without also telling him that she knew what he did, Eunice softened her heart and gave Stanley an opportunity to knock again. They are today married because a generous man persisted to knock the heart of a broken woman. Don’t give up. Knock again, and again. The door that was not opened yesterday can be open today.
Many women resist men because of their bad experiences. Gently show them that some men may be bad, but others can also be very good. Be gentle with such women. Be good to them. Knock real hard and the door to your bride’s heart will be opened if she is God’s will for you.
