Life is both a race and a test. As a race, life is such that we all are running to different destinations. There is really no need to engage in a competition, like two drivers racing to a predetermined destination. As a test, each one has different exam sheet. Each one will be judged by a different standard. There is similarly no need to look into someone else’s question paper. There may be something you can learn from a neighbor to strengthen your ability to answer life’s questions unique to you. Nevertheless, there is no need to engage in unwholesome copying and competition.

One of the most unnecessary dangerous aspects of driving is the unfortunate incident of two drivers racing against each other. Road rage has led to preventable accidents. There is absolutely no need to let another driver on the road determine your speed. A road rage endangers the life of other road users. It violates the official speed limits instituted to make driving safer. It provokes and generates the basest emotions and passions of human aggression and competitiveness which should be channeled to more positive and production ventures for the benefit of society as a whole. Nothing is gained from rage except injuries and deaths.

There are marriage partners that are more interested in what their friends and neighbors are doing that what their own families ought to do. Some compare their husbands to the husbands of their friends or sisters. They can be heard saying to their spouse, “Why can’t you be like our neighbor’s husband?” A husband was heard saying to his wife, “I’m so fed up about the way you look. Why can’t you dress like Kate?” Kate was the wife of his best friend. She was a much younger woman, although always smartly dressed.

Such comparisons are not just cruel and demeaning, they hurt those against whom they are targeted. Every human being is unique and should not be unduly compared to others. The fact that the wife of your friend had a baby in the first year of marriage does not mean you must put pressure on your wife to get pregnant within the same duration. Doing so would amount to allowing another driver to determine your speed. The fact that the Joneses built their house after three years of marriage does not mean that your own family must follow their footsteps. Every family has its own set time of fulfillment. Every home will be beautified in their own time if efforts are made to achieve set goals. Don’t compare your wife to somebody else’s wife. Don’t compare your husband to your friends’ husbands. Individuals have their strengths and weaknesses. Your spouse may have strengths which you may tend to ignore and diminish to the detriment of magnifying the weaknesses.
