Enjoying the fruit of prosperity is not a product of daydreaming or wishful thinking. It demands hardwork built on the three keys of faith, obedience and sacrifice. Faith was the hallmark of Abraham’s walk with God.
Hebrews 11:8 says “(By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.”
Faith is believing and saying what God says. It is believing and doing what God does. At the advanced age of 75, Abraham in obedience left the Ur of the Chaldese to a place he had no prior knowledge of. He trusted God enough to leave his comfort zone to a place of relative discomfort.
He could have asked God to fulfil the promise of giving him and his descendants land in the place of their nativity. He could have asked God to give him a little more detail about the so-called land He was talking to him about. He could have complained about the discomfort of carrying his wife and multitude of properties to nowhere in particular. But he did not.
Abraham simply packed up his things and set out on a journey to “nowhere” in particular. His steps were led by the Lord. His direction was determined by diligent obedience to the directions of the Holy Spirit. Hebrews 11:6 says “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”
Abraham pleased God. He believed that God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Abraham fulfilled the conditions for eating the good of the land in Isaiah 1:19-20: “If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land; But if you refuse and rebel, You shall be devoured by the sword”; For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.” Abraham was willing to obey God and therefore ate the good of the land of promise with his descendants.
