Power is the ability to compel someone to do what, under normal circumstances, he or she may not want to do. God has given His people power, but this must be activated for believers to have an experiential knowledge of power.
Luke 10:19 says “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
The protocol of appropriating power is to tarry in God’s presence for divinity to be downloaded in humanity. Before His ascension to heaven, Jesus said to His disciples, “Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high” (Luke 24:49).
In Acts 1:8, He again said, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
The manifestations of incredible signs and wonders in the ministry of Jesus was the product of His lifestyle of prayer. Mark 1:35 says, “Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.”
On the Mountain of Transfiguration, Jesus prayed to the point that the fashion of his countenance was altered and His robe glistered. He came down from the place of generating power to conduct a deliverance and cast out a spirit His disciples could not deal with. When the disciples asked Jesus why they were not successful in casting out the spirit of epilepsy, His response was, “This kind goeth not unless by prayer and fasting.”
