The mandate of the anointing is to do good. “Jesus of Nazareth went about doing good…” by the anointing. Don’t desire the anointing merely for the purpose of self-aggrandizement. The primary purpose of the anointing is to do good so the kingdom of God will experience supernatural increase. The anointing is not for you to show off how great you are. Neither is it for you to merchandise the gift of God. So many people desire to be anointed for the wrong reasons. Peter warned Elders against merchandising the anointing.
“The elders who are among you I exhort, I who am a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed: Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away” (1 Peter 5:1-4).
According to Luke 4:16-22, the anointing of Jesus was for the purpose of fulfilling a six-fold missionary mandate of doing good. According to Him “the Spirit of the Lord is upon Me”, because He has anointed me to:
1. Preach the Gospel to the Poor
2. Heal the Brokenhearted
3. Proclaim Liberty to the Captives
4. Recover the Sight of the Blind
5. Set at Liberty those who are Oppressed
6. Proclaim the Acceptable Year of the Lord
Anyone who claims to be anointed but is not engaged in these missionary mandates is only deceiving him or herself. The anointing is specific in its mission and mandate. It must be directed to preaching the gospel to the poor, which is, winning souls. Proverbs 11:30 says “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise.”
Again Daniel 12:3 says “Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament, and those who turn many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever.”
The anointing must be used to heal the brokenhearted. It must be directed to proclaiming liberty to captives. To have a church filled with broken hearts and slaves to sin and Satan simply means that those given leadership responsibility are not fulfilling the mission-mandate of doing good and therefore cannot produce supernatural increase. Jesus was anointed with the Holy Spirit and with power and He went about doing good healing all who were oppressed of the devil.
The anointing must be used to recover the sight of the blind. This is the ministry of teaching the Word to take away spiritual ignorance. There is so much ignorance in the church today because there are few anointed teaching priests able to establish doctrine to overcome the challenge of Hosea 4:6 – “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.”
A nation will remain in darkness where there are no teaching priests.
“For a long time Israel has been without the true God, without a teaching priest, and without law; but when in their trouble they turned to the Lord God of Israel, and sought Him, He was found by them. And in those times there was no peace to the one who went out, nor to the one who came in, but great turmoil was on all the inhabitants of the lands. So nation was destroyed by nation, and city by city, for God troubled them with every adversity” (2 Chronicles 15:3-6).
The mandate of the anointing Jesus received from the Father was to set at liberty those that are oppressed by the devil and to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. A church where Satan is allowed to oppress Gods people is a church where the leaders are either not anointed or they have allowed the anointing to become dormant for lack of use. Those who are anointed but are not putting the anointing to execute the mandate of doing good will soon discover that their church will be full of people oppressed by the devil.
